Our aim in orthodontic treatments performed together with orthognathic surgery is to correct;
the relationship between teeth and jaws,
the relationship between jaws and face,
skeletal structure and deformities of jaws.
Orthodontic problems can be related to teeth, jaws or both. Dental problems such as crookedness, gaps between teeth, malocclusion can only be corrected with orthodontic treatment.
In cases where there is a high level of incompatibility in jaws,
lower jaw being more forward or backward than normal,
upper jaw being more backward than normal,
open bite between front teeth,
jaw asymmetry,
gummy smile due to sagging of upper jaw,
skeletal problems such as this, the desired results cannot be achieved by correcting only teeth. In these cases, orthognathic surgery (jaw surgery) is applied together with orthodontic treatment and enables us to achieve a proper jaw closure relationship.

Orthognathic surgery is performed through the mouth under general anesthesia after the growth and development is completed. The surgery is planned by the orthodontist and the plastic surgeon or jaw surgeon.
Surgeries can be applied to a single jaw, two jaws, as well as the tip of the jaw, cheekbones and nose.
In the first week after the surgery, patients experience pain, swelling and limited jaw movements. However, this period is overcome with painkillers and some medications. It is forbidden to eat hard foods in the first weeks following the surgery. Depending on the type of surgery, recovery will be seen within 4-6 weeks.
Orthodontic treatment is usually completed within 6-8 months after surgery.
